The Classic Alpine Tour (The CAT.) takes place in the Queenstown region in late March every second year. The event falling on even years. The timing of each event is planned in consideration of regional holidays and special events around the world that may take precedent for some entrants. Late March/ early April sees the beginning of Autumn and the magnificent colours Central Otago is renowned for - so the perfect time for touring.
The CAT, is aimed at attracting cars that fall into the general description of being of European origin (including British) covering the period post WW2 up until 1979 and being of limited production and unique design features. Cars of special interest and provenance outside the above criteria shall be considered .
The event is a non competition tour starting with a welcome cocktail party in the Queenstown area. The organisers endeavour to put together a varied programme from one event to the other, so as to keep the event fresh for returning participants. Each touring day throughout the beautiful scenery of the region can vary from distance travelled and locality, taking in special features and interesting sights and activities.
A special feature of The CAT will be a display of all the participating cars at a chosen venue for a show that attracts not only locals but international tourists. Generally speaking the cavalcade attracts much attention where ever the tour travels to.
Each tour a localised charity is chosen to be sponsor by the participants and The Cat's prize giving is normally associated with this event.
